Quebec City Tour

Sunday, September 12 was overcast, windy and cool but we dressed warmly and took the ferry again from Levis to Quebec. As the ferry arrived, we saw that the Holland America ship "Maasdam" was in port for the day as part of its New England tour. We had booked a two hour city tour and while we waited, we fortified ourselves with a coffee and tea from Starbucks in the Chateau Frontenac. Our guide was excellant and told us a lot of history of the city as we toured both the upper and lower towns as well as the Plains of Abraham. History was made here 1759 when General Montcalm led the British troops as they scaled the cliffs to take on General Wolfe of the French forces who controlled the city. Both generals were killed in the battle and the British prevailed. Thus Upper Canada became controlled by the English. Just a few years later, the Brits were defeated by the Americans who wanted independence from control and taxation from across the Atlantic.
After the tour we wandered the upper town, looking in the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. We ate lunch at Cap Breton Creperie and had wonderful light crepes rolled around ham, cheese and mushrooms. Mmmm...... In our meandering, we came upon a couple of street performers and enjoyed their music and performances. We got back to the campground just in time for the rains that came down heavily all night.
