Near the end of the loop that we were taking today, we came to the Lizard Head Pass. It is just south of Telluride, a well-known ski area. Three years ago, when we were traveling with Gerry and Dia heading north to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, we had a huge snowstorm as we crossed this pass with an elevation of 10,222'. What had started that day as rain, became heavy and slippery snow as we gained in elevation at the pass. It was a scary day that we all remember well. Today, it is sunny and beautiful so we stopped for a picture to commemorate that past memory. There was a group of grade 8s at the pass for a class in avalanche education so the teacher took this picture for us.
