Monument Valley
Just across the Arizona border in Utah, is Monument Valley on the Navajo reservation. The Gouldings arrived in this area in the early 1900s and set up a trading post for the local people. Today, Gouldings run a motel, resturant, campground, store and gas station. We stayed there for a night in the c/g. The rock is a deep red and the large rock monoliths rise up from the desert floor. They are spectacular! We took a 17 mile drive in our car around many of the structures and in the evening, we went to the trading post to see the John Wayne movie "Stagecoach". The setting of the movie is in Monument Valley. They do this every evening with different John Wayne movies
