Arizona is cut in two by the Mogollon Rim. This ridge rises from the Valley of the Sun about 5000' and the temps dropped from the mid 80s to the 60s and there was even a bit of snow at the roadsides. The stately saguarro cactus gives rise to pinyon pine and juniper. Just north of I-40 is Hom'olovi Ruins State Park. This park was closed in budget cuts last year but was reopened just 2 weeks ago. The ruins were minimal - the Puebloan people lived here for a few hundred years and then disappeared.
