Our next stop is at the beginning of the Via Dolorosa - the site of the Roman Antonia Fortress where Christ was brought from the house of the High Priest Caiphas to the seat of Roman government -and the judgment of the governor Pontius Pilate. The grooved pavement indicates that horses were kept here in the center court of the Fort. Named the Lithostrotos (Greek:pavement) considered traditionally to be the pavement cited in the the Gospel "when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at the place called Lithostrotos, in Hebrew Gabbatha." John 19:13
