Under the church of St Peter in Gallicantu are the remains of the house of the High Priest Caiaphas. Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane as he prayed with His disciples. He was brought here by the soldiers and Caiaphas began his questioning of who Jesus was and if his preaching was seditious against Jewish teaching. We are standing in a pit that we have accessed by a new opening. Through this hole, Jesus was lowered into the pit to be held until he was brought to Pilate. On the wall of the entrance, you can see a cross etched into the stone. Our group stood in here and Pastor John read Psalm 88 to us "You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. Your wrath lies heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. I am confined and cannot escape."
