We love our hiking groups! On Mondays, it is a much larger group - often 35 or more people. But we always meet new and interesting people and that makes hiking enjoyable. And the scenery is spectacular wherever we go. Today, we drove about 45 min east to the Superstition Mountains. We stopped at Tortilla Flats for a bathroom break before we started hiking. This place in in a valley and the Tortilla Creek runs over the road - sometimes it becomes impassable because the water level is higher than a regular car can traverse. The Flats is a real tourist mecca - saloon, restaurant, souvenir store, and small museum- all with a real western flair.
We drove another 4 miles on gravel road to the trailhead and hiked about 5 miles RT to the remnants of Tortilla Ranch - foundations of the ranch house, windmill and water tank that is now more of a sieve because of all the bullet holes in it.
