Friday, March 26 - traveling to the north and west of Phoenix

We spent a morning at Arizona Living History Museum. They have about 30 building buildings of historical interest - but most are poorly maintained and in need of a refurbishment. We spent an interesting morning here with the guidance of costumed docents.

Gunfight between the sheriff and the bad guys who rode into town and robbed the bank - the good guy won!

Most of the buildings were moved from their original sites and brought here

Many settlers arrived in Arizona covered wagons like these.

Lake Pleasent was created by the Waddell Dam on the Aqua Friea River. Today it is at 98% capacity. It's a wonderful recreation area for Phoenicians with camping and lots of water sports.

The oranges and lemons just "fell" from the tree, so we took them home

Superstition wilderness

Today, Saturday, March 20, we drove the Apache Trail to Tortilla Flat where we had lunch and then on to the end of the pavement to the Fish Creek Overlook.

Because of recent rains, the water washes over the road but today it is only 3-4 inches deep so we went across and continued on the Apache Trail.

Vista point over looking Fish Creek Canyon. The road becomes gravel after this point so we turned back - the Jetta is not the best car for those kind of roads.

We stopped at Goldfields Ghost Town for a look around and an ice cream on the way home.

There are 3 pools - a cool pool for laps and daily water volley ball games, 2 warmer pools and a large hot tub. There is also a licensed resturant by the pool if your stomach gets growly after a swim.

There are 30 computer stations if the wifi does not work well in the RV

Sunrise Peak hike with Gerry, Jack and Mary began early on Wednesday morning, March 17 because the forecast was for 86F today! But at the summit, it was windy and very pleasent. A strenouous hike was rewarded with wonderful views for miles around. We began at the Lost Day Wash Trailhead.

The hike begins with one foot in front of the other - its a very rocky path that follows a wash up the hillside

A pause to catch our breath and look back on the trail we have climbed so far. See Camelback Mountain in the far background.

At last - the top of Sunrise Peak - elevation 3200' - we will get a grand 360 degree view up there
