This house on Ethel Street was the home of Mary and 6 other recent nursing school grads for a year after graduation and before she got married. I think it is still a rental - confederate flags are the window "coverings" and a couple of fellas were drinking beer on the front porch at 11am!

Our next stop was the "newer" campus at Knollcrest. When Jack was going to Calvin, the new campus was just opening and classes were split between the two places. We toured the Seminary building, the college chapel, the newly renovated Fine Arts building, library, sports building and many others. It has evolved into a lovely campus. In the Heritage area of the library, we had a wonderful chat with a couple of retired professors who were doing research on the the early years of Dutch immigration to Canada.

This is the emblem of Calvin - in Latin it says "My heart I give - promptly and sincerely"

On the grounds is a series of ponds and lots of mature trees and shrubs. In the background is the Manor House, home of the college president.

Our next stop was Griggs St. Mary's grandfather bought this house before he married in 1916 He had emmigrtaed to the US with his brother from The Netherlands and in a couple of years had brought his father, step mother and 6 brothers and sisters to America. When he married he worked at the Kelvinator factory right at the foot of the street. He lived in this house until he went to Holland Christian Homes in his late 80s. When Mary's father married, he moved into the upstairs apartment for 3 years. When Jack and Mary got married, they lived in the main house for 3 months until Jack graduated from Calvin College and they moved to Toronto. Grandpa had moved into a Nursing home by this time.

Behind the garage, along the fence, there used to be a huge lilac bush loaded with blooms each Spring.
